Kenlake State Resort Park
Aurora, Kentucky
June 12-15th, 2013

TRA 2013 took place in Aurora, Kentucky!   Our host hotel was the Kenlake Resort Lodge.

It is a quiet location with an outdoor pool, nearby walking trails and playgrounds, tennis courts and a public golf course.

The Kentucky Lakes area is unique.  Prior to the formation of the lakes, the land between the rivers was known for being secluded and off-limits to outsiders.  Even today, two or three generations removed, it is still a touchy subject for those who had to leave the area in exchange for hydroelectric power generating dams and progress and tourism in the region.

Thursday's activities began in the morning where participants had the option of two different drives to different tourist attractions. One being a visit to the National Quilt Museum located in Paducah, Kentucky about 40 miles from our host hotel.  Within two blocks of the museum are quality antique stores and local restaurants which made the day fun and interesting.

The second option was a Tour of Kentucky Dam.  A slightly less hectic and more scenic drive through Land Between the Lakes endeed at Kentucky Dam. Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake were at one time considered the two largest manmade lakes in the world.

Thursday night wrapped up with a catered home-style welcome dinner held at the historic Cherokee Lodge less than a mile from our host hotel.  This lodge was once used by African-Americans prior to desegregation in the United States.  The lodge was shut down and almost completely forgotten until a little over three years ago when it underwent significant renovation and has now become a popular site for weddings and various receptions.  It's a very scenic location along Kentucky Lake and served as the location for the TRA 2013 membership meeting.

Friday's activities included the participant’s choice and concourse car show.  The event was located in a large grassy, shaded area surrounded by water on three sides located near the Bay View building less than a mile from our host hotel.

Adjacent to the show location was a nice large unused asphalt parking lot which was the location for the afternoon “Funkana”.

Friday night was the traditional TRA Auction.

Saturday's activities began with an early morning drive to breakfast at a local favorite to start the day.

Saturday afternoon was a "Name the Parts" rally sending participants to specific tourists' stops and park locations in search of TR parts, taking in some local history and culture in the process.

Saturday night concluded with the traditional banquet and awards ceremony held at our host hotel.

Many thanks to Jeff and Libby Slaton for planning a great TRA 2013!
